Why you should be doing Microneedling

Microneedling has been around for a while. We have been preforming this procedure at Rejuvenations for over six years. The device we use in the spa is called the SkinPen. There are a few different devices out there but they all do roughly the same thing. Microneedling is a collagen inducing therapy. The tiny needles on the end of the pen create small punctures on the top layer of the skin. This causes the body to stimulate collagen and create new elastin. Some common questions I get when I am consulting a new patient “What is Microneedling?’ “Does it hurt?” “Is there downtime?” “Am I a candidate?” Microneedling is a procedure designed to promote skin rejuvenation. The pen we use at the spa has different depths that range from 0.5 millimeters to 2.5 millimeters. Depending on which area of the face I am working on will dictate which depth I will use. During this treatment, the skin is basically tricked into thinking it has a wound. In order to treat this wound, the body will send fibroblasts to create more collagen. Once the body begins to “heal” the wound, the skin is thicker thus improving the tone and texture. This is the reason why this treatment is so amazing at treating acne scars. Microneedling does not hurt and has little down time. We use a compounded numbing cream on the face and neck. It takes about twenty to thirty minutes to numb these areas. When I get this procedure done I do notice I am a little tender on the forehead and upper lip. Most of my patients tell me they feel nothing at all. You will be a bright pink/red color, have pin point bleeding and will feel like you have a sunburn. After twenty four hours you can put on makeup. We recommend all of our patients use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for three to five days after this procedure. Patients also need to avoid any serums (Vitamin C, Retinols, Glycolic Acids etc..) during this time frame. Most people are a candidate for this procedure. We do not recommend getting this done if you have active acne. Not only is it a fantastic treatment for scarring, it is also great for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles and overall skin tone and texture. We recommend getting this treatment in a series of three spaced out about a month apart. After completing the series you will need to keep up maintenance (just like with nails and hair) of about every three to four months. I try to get this done four times a year. I believe of all the things we do at the spa, this is in my top two of favorites! The next time I get this done I will post my before, during and after pictures. Be sure to follow me on Instagram (sipsandsparkles_ig) I will be sharing a lot in the upcoming months on stories and IGTV!
