My Complete Hair Care Guide

Hi friends and welcome back to my blog!  I get a lot of questions from friends and clients about my hair.  So, I thought I would write a blog post about my complete hair care routine.  I don’t know about you, but I have always struggled to have what I consider “good” hair.  I started highlighting my hair and getting perms when I was thirteen years old.  Needless to say, I have created a lot of damage over the last 30 or so years!  I used to joke and say my hair was fried and dyed!!  I have tried so many products over the years trying to get my hair in good shape.  In case you missed it, I wrote a blog post a few months back on some things I did to get to the point I am today.  One of the biggest changes I have seen in my hair is when I started taking a collagen supplement called Modere.  This stuff is literally liquid gold!  I wrote a complete review on this product and I have a referral code if you would like to try it out.

So let’s start out with some quick tips you can start right now to get your hair on the path to being more healthy.

Use a hair mask weekly.  I discovered the Olaplex hair mask through Jen from the Sister Studio.  I aim to use this either on Sunday (when I am doing my self care) or Monday.  I put it on dry hair.  Brush it through to make sure each strand is coated and then I wrap it up in a  bun and sleep with it over night.  I shampoo it out in the morning and my hair is amazingly soft and shiny!

Sleep with hair in a loose bun.  I have been doing this for years.  It really helps to cut down tangles.  I love to use a silk scrunchie or a microfiber one.  These are way more gentle on your hair.

Don’t wash your hair everyday.  I know there are a lot of opinions about this issue.  I wash my hair every other day.  This is the most I can go.  My scalp tends to get very oily, so if I go more than a day it starts to feel gross.

Now let’s move on to some of my holy grail products that I use almost on a daily basis.

Function of Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner.  I started using this line in November 2019 and it is a game changer for me!  I have used some other lines that are ok but I always come back to the Function of Beauty.  They have a hair quiz that you take and they customize a formula just for you.  I believe you can get this line in Target.  They carry a line for curly hair, fine hair etc.  I still order mine on line because I like to customize my shampoo and conditioner.

Fanola No Yellow Shampoo.  If you highlight your hair and it gets brassy sometimes, you have to get this product!  I heard about it from a client and it is the best purple shampoo on the market.  I use this once a week.  You can use it on it’s own or you can mix it in with your favorite shampoo.  I get the most compliments on my hair color after using this shampoo.

Davines OI All in One Milk.  This is one of the best leave in conditioners I have ever tried!  It  nourishes your hair, protects against UV rays and keeps frizz away.  If you have fine thin hair, a little of this goes a long way.  I spritz this on my damp hair and then I comb it thru to the ends.

Living Proof Dry Shampoo.  On the days that I don’t wash my hair, I use this product and it is amazing!  It smells so good and keeps my hair fresh all day long.  I love to spray this in my hairline, take my shower and then use a hair dryer to disperse it through the rest of my hair.

Davines This is Strong Hairspray.  I have purchased this hairspray over and over again!  It holds your hair perfectly but doesn’t make it feel heavy or sticky.

Boldify Dry Texture Spray.  I love a texture spray to add volume and defined curls.  This product is also great if you have an up-do that needs extra hold or if you want more defined curls.

T3 Hair Dryer.  I will admit it…this hair dryer is expensive.  But..if you can catch it on sale like I did (Amazon prime day is coming up!) it is totally worth it!  It takes me about eight to ten minutes to dry my hair.  The nozzle is perfect for concentrating on those hard to reach areas.  It cuts down on frizz which is a bonus in my book.  An honorable mention is the hair dryer by Dry Bar.  A good option if you don’t want to splurge for the T 3.

T3 1.25 Curling Iron.  I can see why this curling iron gets a lot of hype.  Two words..It’s fantastic!!!  It comes in a few different sizes but I have found that the 1.25 size is the perfect one for my hair.  It creates the perfect loose beachy waves that I love!

Revlon Hair Dryer Brush.  This product got a lot of hype when several Instagram bloggers shared it.  So, of course I had to try it!  This is a great tool to use on almost dry hair or next day hair.  I love to use this one if I need to refresh my hair when I don’t wash it or when my bangs are not cooperating and I need something to smooth them out.

I want to add that I usually see my stylist about every 8 to 10 weeks.  Sometimes she does a trim and sometimes she just leaves it alone.  About every other time we do a full head of highlights with low lights.   On the days that we don’t do a full highlight, we will do a partial.  I also will have her do some shades (it’s basically a toner to make my highlights look a little ashy).  I hope you enjoyed this post about hair care!  Let me know in the comments some of your favorite hair care products!

XO–April
