How to plan the perfect Mother’s Day

Hey friends!  With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to write a blog on how to plan the perfect day for your Mom.  Mother’s Day 2020 was challenging to say the least.  This time last year it was my first one without my mom.  She had just passed away in March 2, 2020.  With travel restricted, I was not able to see my sister.  We wanted so badly to be there for each other.  It was a pretty difficult day for me last year.  Everything was shut down due to covid.  My daughter’s senior prom was cancelled.  And, we still weren’t sure if we were even going to have graduation for her.  Needless to say, I made the best of it and looked forward to next year.

So, fast forward to 2021.  Things seems like they are rounding a corner.  Places are opening back up and families can finally be together!  This was always my mom’s favorite holiday because she could spend the day with “all of her babies”!  Most of the time, my sister and I would plan to take her out to a restaurant and then to an activity.  In the past, we have done pottery, painting, spa day and sometimes a picnic!

My mom always appreciated the planning that went into making her day special.  She always said we didn’t have to get her anything and just us celebrating together was enough.  She told me once “Honey, I don’t need another robe!”  She just loved making memories with us and creating traditions that I can now carry on with my daughter.

The most important thing to remember is we are celebrating mom and all the wonderful things she does.  We want to make sure she feels loved!  So why not make the day extra special for her?  I am going to share a few tips and ideas to do just that!

Let her sleep in.  Most of the time us moms are the first ones up getting everything ready for the day.  Packing lunches, getting breakfast and then running everyone around to where they need to be.  So, on this day let her sleep as late as she wants!  I know I appreciate when I can sleep in once in awhile.  I even have a sleep tank top that says “Let me sleep”.

Start off with her favorite morning activity.  Maybe she is a coffee drinker or a tea drinker.  Find a special place on the deck, front porch or patio.  Set up her favorite flowers and pour her favorite beverage in a pretty mug.  Let her have a moment to savor her drink and have a little quiet time.

Plan brunch.  I mean, most mom’s I know love a good brunch with mimosas!  However, unless you plan ahead most restaurants will be very crowded and probably have a wait.  So, why not let her relax in her jammies and have brunch at home.  Plan out her favorite foods.  Maybe do a combination of sweet and savory like french toast, Belgian waffles, bacon, eggs, shrimp and grits.  You get the idea!  You could also set up a mimosa bar.  Have two or three juices to choose from. Watermelon juice, orange juice and grapefruit juice just to name a few.  Set out fancy wine glasses and have fruit cut up to garnish.

Plan out her favorite activity.  If your mom is very active maybe scope out a nearby park to go hiking.  Or, find a place that does kayaking or paddle boarding.  If mom is more into relaxing, plan a spa day at the house.  You can pick up face masks pretty much everywhere.  And I am referring to something like a sheet mask or clay mask not face covering lol!  Offer to paint her nails while she is relaxing with her mask on.  You could also surprise her with a trip to the beach (if that is close by) or a trip to the mountains.  If she just loves staying home, let her binge watch her favorite show or have a few hours to read her favorite book.  A pretty picnic planned out in the backyard is another great idea!

Just remember that us moms just want some quality time with our family on our special day.  Letting someone else do all the work on this day is an added bonus!  Be sure to not let her lift a finger, unless it’s to change the channel or get a sip of her drink!  Make the day as special as you can and celebrate the most important woman in your life!  Hope you were able to get some ideas to plan out a special day for your mom!!  Let me know in the comments what you are planning!
