How to Get a Younger Looking Neck

Hi friends!!  Welcome back to my blog!  This week I wanted to focus on an area that I get the most complaints about when I am doing a consultation at the spa.  Most older women will tell me they do not like the look of their neck.  The reason for this is the neck is often the first area to show signs of aging.  The skin on the neck is very different from the skin on the face.  This skin is very delicate and it is often neglected during our skincare routine.  It is also vulnerable to sun damage.  When it comes to reducing lines on the neck, the biggest factor is prevention.  I always advise my clients to take their serums and moisturizers all the way down the neck and the chest.  Another easy way to prevent neck wrinkles is sleeping correctly.  I am a huge side sleeper, so I know it can be hard to train yourself to sleep on your back.  Sleeping on your back is one of the best ways to prevent wrinkles on the face, neck and chest.  Now that we have discussed some basic things to do to prevent neck lines and wrinkles, let’s look at some other ways we can get a younger looking neck.

Protect your neck from the sun.  I cannot stress this enough!!  Apply sunscreen to your face and neck every single day.  These are the two main areas (along with the hands) that are exposed to the sun pretty much 24/7 365 days a year.  If you are going to be outside for long periods of time, a wide brimmed hat will be your best friend.  A large floppy hat will protect your face and neck.  You can find hats that have SPF in them for double protection.  One of my favorites can be found here.

Add a retinoid.  A retinoid is one of the “key 3” skincare items you must have in your routine.  If you are not using a neck cream you need to start it ASAP.  The average neck cream is limited in what it can do in the anti aging arena.  Neck creams need a retinoid in them in order for them to help with neck lines, wrinkles and sagging.  My top pick for a neck cream is one we carry at the spa called Rejuva Firm.  It has a very high concentration of retinol and when used consistently will make a big difference in the appearance of neck wrinkles and sagging skin.  A close second would be the Advanced Nectifirm by Revision.

Avoiding tech neck.  Yes, believe it or not this is a thing.  Pretty much everyone has a phone.  So, we spend a lot of time looking down which can cause neck lines and wrinkles.  One of the easiest ways to prevent this is to prop your phone up.  You find one here.

Get a skin tightening procedure.  One of the hottest trends is microneedling with radiofrequency.  This is a fantastic combination therapy to help with skin tightening and combat the signs of aging.  I had the Genius treatment at the spa and I can tell a huge difference in my neck lines.  I have a full blog post on the benefits of microneedling.  So, when we brought on the Genius device at the end of last year we were all very excited!  A device that treats fine lines, wrinkles, scarring and will tighten the skin at the same time??  Yes please!  People will need to complete a series of three with repeating this procedure about every 2 to 3 years.  Another treatment you can do for the neck is IPL (intense pulsed light).  This is a laser that treats hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage.  Taking off the sun damage will drastically improve the look of the neck.

Of course, there is always the option of plastic surgery for dramatic results.  One common procedure is the Whisper Lift.  You can read about it here.  I know a lot of people do not like the downtime and expense of plastic surgery which is why I wanted to do a blog post about some other non invasive options.  I hope you have found this helpful!  Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or if you have a procedure you are curious about!!
