5 Healthy Hair Tips

I noticed that once I turned forty lots of things began to change.  Everything from my metabolism, to my skin, to my hair.  So, I started trying everything under the sun.  Every time I would run out of my shampoo and conditioner I was on the hunt for the next best product.  My hair would literally come out in handfuls when I was in the shower.  I started thinning around my hairline.  In 2018, several beauty gurus on You Tube started talking about Monat.  So, of course I had to jump on board.  I used this product for almost a year.  It was ok for me.  I didn’t notice a huge change but wanted to stick with it.  Monat is a program like an MLM.  You buy under someone and then get others to buy under you etc.. After a year I decided I needed to make a few changes that involved more than just shampoo and conditioner.  Here a few things I have done in the last twelve months that has made improvement in my hair.

  1. Protein:  I have been tracking macros (protein, fats and carbohydrates) for over a year and a half.  I am eating more protein now than ever before.  I get around 120 grams per day.  This change in my diet alone has improved my hair tremendously.
  2. Zinc:  Zinc deficiency can cause hair to shed.  When everything started with COVID-19, I started taking 50mg of zinc every day.  This also helped make major improvements with hair shedding.  No longer do I have a handful of hair coming out when I wash.
  3. Function of Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner: I started using this last November and it is the BEST shampoo and conditioner!  This is the only product I have used over this last year.  They formulate the product based on a quiz you take before you order.  You get to pick the color and scent.  It is a little pricey but you do not have to use much.  I usually only order about every three to four months.
  4. Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin and Nails: Once again I have tried different vitamins over the years.  This one is loaded with vitamins and Biotin which plays a role in the growth of healthier, thicker hair.
  5. Wash every other day: I used to be a wash every day kind of girl.  Now I have moved to every other day.  I wish I could go longer but my hair is very oily at the scalp.  If I only washed once or twice a week I would look like I dipped my head in Crisco!

So, these are the five things I have done over the last year.  I have had a few clients of mine ask me if I got extensions put in!  If you are experiencing hair loss or thinning hair maybe trying some of these tips will help.  Also, for all of my highlighted girls out there this purple shampoo from Amazon is a game changer when it comes to fighting the brassiness.  I use it about one to two times a week!
